It’s that time of year again. October. Fall leaves. Pumpkin spice lattés. And our favorite: National Cyber Security Awareness Month!
We’ve been an active supporter of NCSAM for years not just because we work in the security industry but because security is our passion. We want to help make the internet a safer place for everyone – kids, parents, friends and family. We do this through our awareness training for organizations, enterprises, schools, and companies of all sizes, as well as by releasing lots of free educational content that can be used by parents, teachers, small businesses and anyone else interested in cyber security.
Cyber security is not something we achieve but rather something we do. It is not something we do once but rather something we do continuously, every day. There is no such thing as being 100% secure, but if we all increase our awareness, then we can work towards being more secure as a community and within our organizations. Much like healthy living, cyber security awareness is not an end goal. It is a lifestyle. And just like making smart eating choices and making small positive changes in your every day life will improve your health, making smart online decisions and making small positive changes in our every day online behaviors will improve our security posture.
NCSAM is a great opportunity for us to share our security awareness knowledge with the community, to help everyone get more cyber fit and security aware. Throughout the month, we will be releasing tons of blog articles, videos, posters, interactive games and modules for you to use at home, at work, or at school in your cyber security efforts. Be sure to check our freebie archive every week for a new package of awareness materials you can use to train your users. We’ll be participating in STOP. THINK. CONNECT.‘s #ChatSTC Twitter chat every Thursday at 2 CST, so feel free to join in!
We will also be running two social media raffles where you can win cool prizes such as a free year long subscription to Security Awareness News, free training modules for your entire organization, security trivia games, Security Cat t-shirts, a Books by Winn Schwartau Swag Bag, software licenses from our friends Sticky Password, Backblaze, EmsiSoft and SpyShelter, and more freebies than you might know what to do with. The first raffle will run from Oct 1 – 16 and be aimed at all your cyber savvy users who like free stuff. The second raffle will run from the 16th – 30th and be aimed all you awesome IT team managers and sys admins who need awareness materials to train your users. We’ve got you covered! 🙂
Stay connected with us on Facebook and Twitter to keep updated about all the great stuff you can get your hands on, and be sure to check the blog every week for tips and tricks you can use at home to teach security awareness to the whole family, and at work so you can improve your in-house security awareness program.
We always want to hear from you, so feel free to tweet us at @SecAwareCo or leave a comment on our Facebook page. Remember when tweeting or commenting on Facebook to use the hashtag #CyberAware for this month’s activities.
We hope you have an awesome National Cyber Security Awareness Month!
